2021 New Taipei City International Smart City Forum "Technological Epidemic Prevention x Zero-Carbon Economy to Create a Smart and Resilient City"
On November 15, 2021, the New Taipei City Government held the 2021 International Smart City Forum "Science and Technology Epidemic Prevention x Zero-Carbon Economy to Create a Smart and Resilient City". We had invited domestic and foreign experts from industry, government and academia to share international trends and industrial practical experiences in smart cities from different perspectives.

Hou You-Yi, the Mayor of New Taipei City, said that under the ravages of COVID-19, major cities around the world are emphasizing resilience. In the face of multiple pressures and challenges, smart cities integrate technology, data, and human nature. It is the foundation of all advanced deployment. Synchronizing with the world, New Taipei City demonstrates its emergency response capabilities with resilience and spares no effort to revitalize the economy. Specifically implemented in big data centers, drone applications, smart street lights, remote care virtual wards, etc. "50% carbon reduction by 2030, net zero carbon by 2050" is a commitment to the citizens of New Taipei City. The most important key is the infrastructure construction of the smart city. The core of the smart city is people-oriented, and the goal is to practice sustainable development and quality life.

This forum focused on the two major themes of "Technological Epidemic Prevention" and "Zero-Carbon Economy". In addition to arranging special speeches, there will also be online exchanges between Taiwan and Japan in the afternoon session. In the morning session, Chen Xiu-Xi, a professor at the School of Public Health, National Taiwan University, shared the development of smart health and epidemic prevention care; Liu Jing-Qing, deputy executive director of PWC United Accounting Firm and Alliance Business, analyzed how to deal with the new economy in the digital era under the changing situation of the epidemic; Zheng Yan-Ren, deputy general manager of Hua-Dian Network, discussed the risks and challenges of smart government using technology to prevent epidemics; Luo Jian-Cheng, senior vice president of the Intelligent Security Control Department of Jie-Rui Intelligent Company, held a special discussion on technological epidemic prevention and information security challenges under digital transformation.

In the afternoon session, John G. Jung, chairman and founder of Smart City Forum ICF, was first invited to share the international trend of introducing AI in major cities around the world to create safe and smart cities; Wang Ren-Qian, the director of the Institute of Green Energy and Environment of ITRI, introduced Competitive net-zero carbon emission technology options; Hsu Zhi-Yi, an advisory member of the Chinese Academy of Economic Research, published how to continue to drive energy transformation with green electricity under the epidemic; T-RECs.ai Pte Ltd founder and CEO Kang Jen Wee pointed out how to meet RE100. How to cut into the international green industry supply chain and other sustainable environmental issues to give a special speech. Finally, the vice president of Zhonghua University, Xie Hong-Nian, summarized how to talk about smart and resilient cities from the perspective of regional development.

In the Taiwan-Japan bilateral exchange meeting held simultaneously in the afternoon, Shintaro Sano, the director of PwC Consulting LLC, and Akira Naito, associate director, were invited to share Japan's experience in developing smart cities and smart energy, virtual power plants and micro-grids. The Development Bureau will also publish the smart energy management of New Taipei City, and exchange views on the application of smart city energy transformation strategies and energy data development between Taiwan and Japan.
