2022 New Taipei City International Smart City Forum
New Taipei City Government held the "2022 New Taipei City International Smart City Forum" on August 5, 2022, sharing in-depth discussions with representatives and industry leaders of many smart cities around the world, discussing how cities can survive the new normal life in the post-epidemic era, leading the city towards a sustainable smart city include the conditions which are, inclusive, safe, and resilient. The issue of smart cities and sustainable cities has become the focus of global attention. As the largest city in Taiwan, New Taipei City, in addition to developing related urban governance mechanisms and convenient services, New Taipei City continues to interact with international standards. The future blueprint for smart cities in New Taipei City is based on human nature and the combination with technology.

The international forum invites include Sally Capp, Mayor of Melbourne, Australia; Mark Jamieson, Mayor of Sunshine Coast, Australia; Yudhistira Nugraha, D.Phil., Director of Smart City Office in Jakarta, Indonesia; Representatives from Taiwan and advanced industries in the field of smart cities discuss current smart city governance and innovative service issues and study the imagination and strategic development layout of future cities.

Mark Jamieson, Mayor of Sunshine Coast, Australia, said that the New Taipei City International Smart City Forum is a dialogue between like-minded cities around the world, seeking to use smart technology to improve the lives of our urban residents. Michael Whereat, Smart City Coordinator of Sunshine Coast City Council, shared that Sunshine Coast has been promoting smart cities since 2016, extensively using technology to establish a smart government with data-driven decision-making, including the application of digital twin models in urban design and disaster response, and cooperating with universities to design cities green corridors reduce the impact of the urban heat island effect to create sustainable and resilient cities.

John Jung, the chairman and co-founder of ICF, express at the meeting that smart city and smart community initiatives are beneficial to the development of people, society, and culture all over the world. New Taipei City has been committed to promoting the development of a sustainable smart city in recent years. This time, New Taipei City was selected by ICF as the elements of the world's Top 7 smart cities, including the successful integration and connection of urban areas and rural areas through transportation and the Internet, active cultivation of digital talents, and promotion of industry and employment opportunities. In the future, hope New Taipei City will continue to serve as a benchmark for sustainable smart cities and bring more inspiration to other cities around the world.

In this forum, representatives from various countries in Taiwan also shared strategies and applications of sustainable smart cities, including large cities in Australia, Germany, India, the United Kingdom, and Indonesia. At the same time, they are working hard to achieve net zero carbon emissions by 2050 and look forward to working with New Taipei City Together towards the net zero milestones. In addition, in terms of urban management, how to use the power of science and technology to provide better convenient services to the public is also a major development focus of smart cities, such as providing the most real-time traffic and environmental index-related data. And using artificial intelligence to detect and manage traffic conditions and manage dangerous conditions on the streets through the Internet of Things. These developments and applications all adhere to the common philosophy with New Taipei City, to provide a safer and more convenient living environment.
